HA NOI — Viet Nam hopes to receive support from the international community in the fight against climate change, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.
Dung was speaking at a reception for the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Rajendra K. Pachauri, in Ha Noi yesterday.
Dung said Viet Nam hoped that the panel would back Viet Nam's participation in IPCC studies on climate change to enable it to update the research outcomes from other countries.
He said Viet Nam would be seriously affected by climate change, rising sea levels and natural disasters.
Coping with climate change was not only good for Viet Nam but also contributed to global efforts.
The IPCC Chairman said Viet Nam had shown its determination to fight climate change by taking reasonable measures in line with its strong political determination to fight the problem.
He said the IPCC would work closely with Viet Nam, recommending the country strengthen investment in early warning systems and policy making relating to agriculture and urban planning. — VNS
